Edizione del pesce – Meritalia
Gaetano Pesce was born in 1939 in La Spezia. After residing in Venice, London, Helsinki and Paris he moves to New York in 1980 where he still lives nowadays. From his first manifesto composed when he was seventeen through his studies, travels, experimentations, education, Pesce’s experience was global and innovations introduced by him were always pioneering . He teaches for 28 years at Institut d’Architecture et d’Etudes Urbaines in Strasbourg and he lectures in the most influential cultural institutes and in the most renowned universities of the world. His multidisciplinary works are part of permanent collections of MoMa and Metropolitan Meuseum in New York, of Victoria and Albert Muesum in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris, in the German Vitra Design Museum and Montreal Museum of Art, as well as other museums in Japan, Portugal and Finland. His works – in architectural circles, town planning, interior design for exhibition or industry – stand out for the unlimited use of color and obstinate employment of revolutionary materials, developed thanks to new technologies. The constant research and trust in advanced materials lead, in Pesce’s case, to continuous innovations, in both form and production.
In 2010, Pesce and Meritalia introduced to Salone del Mobile three new collections: Le Edizioni del Pesce, Senza Fine and La Fiorita, series dedicated to spring. At last the fulfillment of two new projects: Il Giullare, a modular sofa which recalls the hat of a joker, and Senza Fine Unica, an edition of unique pieces of chair Senza Fine, exhibited at 54th Biennal of Art in Venice and destined to art galleries.
